Transforming lives in Zambia by strengthening the church, educating the next generation, and serving the community in the name of Jesus Christ.
STRENGTHENING THE CHURCH
Haven of Hope believes that the church is the hope of the world. We believe that a community is only as healthy as its churches, and it is local church leaders who best understand the needs in the community. We therefore consult with local pastors in the Zambian communities we serve in order to determine how we can help strengthen their churches. In particular, Haven of Hope provides much-needed resources for congregations and annual training events for church leaders. Consequently, hundreds of pastors have been equipped and many Zambians have come to know Christ.
Over the years, Haven of Hope has pursued this work in a number of ways. For example:
- In 2007, a Haven of Hope team trained 250 pastors in Ndola. Many of these pastors had expressed a conviction that it was time to rebuild their country. We used the book of Nehemiah and Andy Stanley's Visioneering to equip them with the tools needed to engage in this work. Andy Stanley's ministry generously donated 500 of his books to leave with the pastors following the training.
- In 2008, authors and speakers Roger and Becky Tirabassi joined our team to provide marriage enrichment for local church leaders in Ndola, as well as a one-day prayer workshop. Becky shared the message of God's changing power and purity with large crowds on two evenings, which led to hundreds of commitments for Christ; local pastors followed up on those who responded. This marked the beginning of Burning Heart Bible study meetings in the community.
- In 2010, our team provided additional training for 30 pastors. We also partnered with them to serve local people affected by the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
Haven of Hope continues these efforts today. We especially seek to connect pastors in the United States with pastors in Zambia, so that they might share ideas and resources and pray for each other.
How can you get involved?
There are ongoing opportunities to serve the Zambian church by sharing resources and providing its leaders with training. We are always looking for pastors and church leaders in the United States with an interest in teaching. If that describes you, we would love for you to join us on our next trip to Zambia; we can also plan a trip of any size for members of your congregation. Additionally, you can support this part of our mission by praying for revival in the Zambian church, both in the communities we serve and across the country. Pray that God would strengthen His church.
